The Ten Commandments clearly forbids worship of humans created gods from any material. (Exodus 20:2-17) Now there are newer gods: digital gods, virtual reality gods in virtual temples, and even AI (Artificial Intelligence) gods who accept pujas and incense. Generally, people want a god with certain characteristics that will benefit them.
Dispel Fear: People seek God out of fear. There are many kinds: fear of death, disease, disaster, defeat, danger…etc. Help is sought to overcome the inner fear. But only Lord Jesus Christ can deliver from fear of death and all kinds of fears. (Hebrews 2:15)
Power: These gods could display power beyond a human. When the steam engine was introduced, seeing the power, people worshiped. When the nuclear bomb test was done in Rajasthan, India, people started worshiping at that site. Only the Lord could make New Creation, transforming a wicked person into a saint.
Wealth: Many worship gods to gain wealth and prosperity in this world. However, these riches are deceitful and not eternal.
Communicate: Most people want gods to speak to them. Interestingly, AI gods could communicate, both through text and voice. Though the words do not encourage or equip or affirm, could give false hopes.
Wisdom: In the information era, software developers have access to a wide variety of knowledge, from around the world, fetched in a few seconds. AI gods could provide solutions to problems that cannot be solved by other humans. The Bible teaches that the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10)
Guidance: If GPS could give direction, AI embedded with GPS could give direction, as well as suggestions. AI could give several options, paths, or ways, but the destination would be death. (Proverbs 14:12)
Immortal: An AI god will not get tired or sick and will outlive humans. Hence, for many AI gods are true gods. AI gods also will die in due course of time. The self-existing God, I AM, WHO I AM is eternal. (Exodus 3:14) Lord Jesus Christ is the author of life. (Acts 3:15) One who has Son, has Eternal life. (I John 5:12)
Do I keep away from counterfeit gods?
