David lamented while staying in a cave, probably the Cave of Adullam or the Cave of En Gedi. (Psalms 57:4; I Samuel 22:1; 24:1) He declared that he was among the lions. It had a double application. First, David was in the midst of the dense forest, where lions roamed around. Second, the lion was a metaphor for the ruthless and wicked people trying to attack and destroy him. Like David, believers go through such difficult periods, when relentlessly attacked by Satan, his demons, and cronies.
Fellowship: When lions surround a believer, the safe, good, and comfortable place is the presence of God. The Lord Jesus and the Church provide the needed warmth and comfort. The saints of God in unity and fellowship provide a great strength to face the lions of the world.
Drawn closer: Chasing lions and roaming lions drive us closer to God. Knowing and acknowledging that human prowess and power cannot save them from deadly enemies, believers draw closer to God. Disciples have to acknowledge their vulnerability and draw closer to Him. The best is to be under the wings of the Almighty.
On a leash: As a dog is chained, and can move only to the limit of the length of the chain, Satan has limited power. Satan has to take permission from God to attack the saints of God. Satan cannot attack the righteous Job without the permission of God, and God determined the limits. Satan got permission to sift Peter, in which Peter failed and denied the Lord. (Job 1; 6-22; Luke 22:31-34)
Angels: God sends his angels in times of need. The lions in the den had their mouth shut by an angel. Daniel was not harmed. (Daniel 6:22) The same God of Daniel will protect from the evil men and beasts.
Lion of the Tribe of Judah: The Lord Jesus Christ is described as the Lion of Judah. (Revelation 5:5) The roaming lion is not a match for the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. He has defeated death and is alive forevermore.
