Freetown, in Sierra Leone (Africa) witnessed a ghastly accident. A tanker truck carrying petrol attempted a U-turn, it collided with a truck carrying sand. The tanker truck then began leaking fuel. “Bike riders, taxi drivers and people around the neighborhood rushed to the scene to collect the leaking fuel, and in the process, the tanker exploded.” (The New York Times, 6 November 2021) About one hundred people died and many were admitted in the hospital. These people thought they can gain some fuel that could help them financially. However, in that process they lost their lives.
Sin like fire: Prophet Isaiah warns that sin, evil and wickedness are like fire: “For wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns; it kindles the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is scorched, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no one spares another.” (Isaiah 9: 18-19)
Fire of adultery: People involved in the sin of adultery and pornography are like those who carry fire to their chest. Their clothes will be burned. (Proverbs 6:27) The foolish people tried to collect fuel in vessels which killed them.
Fire of envy: Temptation of sin will be attractive, but a person should overcome it. It crouches at the door of heart, ready to enter and destroy. Lord warned Cain, but he did not heed that warning. (Genesis 4:7) Fire of envy and hatred engulfed him and he became the first murderer in the history of humanity.
Fire of lusts: Paul writes, when humanity refused the revelation in nature or creation, in which God’s divine power and attributes are evident. Hence, they were given over to the lusts that consume them, and they exchange truth for lie. (Romans 1: 18-25)
Lake of Fire: The ultimate judgement on sinful humanity, is that they chose Satan, and with him they will be thrown into the Lake of Fire which is hell. (Revelation 19:20; 20:14)
