There are atheists, agnostics, rationalists, and other anti-god proponents who ask: Who is God? Why should I bow before him? Some declare: “We did not elect him as God, how can he rule over us?” Nevertheless, they will have no option but to bow down before him. Paul writes: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Proverbs 2:9-11) The Day of the Lord is a terrible day for all unbelievers.
1) Cannot deny him: When they stand before Lord Jesus Christ who comes in glory, they can never deny him. In the world they can deny history, evidence, testimony of eyewitnesses; but when they stand before him, how can they deny him?
2) Cannot defy him: Lord Jesus Christ has authority over all the universe and over every individual. They do not have power, authority or guts to defy him.
3) Cannot defeat him: Worldly dictators attacked the Church, imprisoned many, desecrated churches and killed saints. Now, before glorified Christ they are utterly helpless and miserable creatures.
4) Cannot delay surrender: There is no way they can delay their surrender or postpone their destiny or destruction. The time is ripe for their ultimate judgement.
5) Cannot deceive: In the world, they used to deceive and dictate their desires. Now, all things are exposed. “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
6) Cannot dodge: They cannot avoid judgement by quick sudden movement. They will say to mountains to fall on them to dodge away. Will the hills oblige?
7) Cannot die: Even if they wish to die, they cannot. They will experience a Second death in the Lake of Fire. (Revelation 21:8)
This is the day for us to receive Him and come under His Lordship and protection.
Have I taken refuge in the name of the Lord? (Proverbs 18:10)
