One social worker and politician commented that the Christian Faith in India has become flexible because it has accommodated the hierarchy of the caste system in its practice. (The Hindu, 6 January 2024) Sadly, not like the disciples who were called Christians in Antioch for good reasons. (Acts 11:26) In other words, modern-day Christians in India have compromised Christian values or are corrupted by unchristian values.
Creation: When someone celebrates or is proud of his/her birth in a particular caste, rejects the creation account of the Bible. Adam and Eve are the first human couple, and they were created in the image of God, and so are all human beings. God knits a baby together in the womb of his/her mother. (Psalms 139: 13-14)
Equality: Since all humans are descendants of Adam and Eve, all are equal in God’s sight. There are no places for racism, casteism, class hierarchy, linguistic chauvinism, and other discriminations. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
Walking in light: Believers of the Lord Jesus Christ walk in spiritual light and are in fellowship with one another. Disciples irrespective of their background, economic status, or nationality are all one. (I John 1:7) This is possible because all have been washed by the Blood of Lord Jesus Christ. The disciples have been purchased for a price – the blood of Jesus Christ, should not become slaves of principles of the world, rituals, customs, superstitions, and cultural traditions. (I Corinthians 7:23)
Freedom: Many early Jewish Christians including Peter the Apostle were in bondage of Jewish cultural traditions. Lord had to nudge Peter to go to the house of Cornelius, a Roman citizen and not a Jew. (Acts chapters 10,11) Peter had to understand if an angel could visit a Gentile Cornelius house, he could also visit. Yet, Peter went to old habits and was rebuked publicly by Paul, a junior Apostle. (Galatians 2:11-14) Many modern Christians including Indians have become foolish like the believers in Galatia. (Galatians 3:1)
