Recently a young popular actress in small screen who was married just a few days ago, committed suicide. ‘Love affair’ became ‘hate affair’. There are many couples who are ending their life in bitterness and hatred. Sadly, few commit suicides, or live-in depression or become psychopaths.
In the Bible, Amnon, son of great King David was interested in a girl Tamar from Royal family. His wicked friend Jonadab gave him an idea to feign ‘illness’, ask her to be caregiver and rape her. (II Samuel 13:4) When David visited him, Amnon did exactly as advised by Jonadab. Foolish David ordered Tamar to care for Amnon. Waiting for that moment, Amnon raped Tamar. (II Samuel 13:14) “Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her.” (II Samuel 13:15) This statement is true in the lives of many young couples today around the world.
According to sociologists, attraction between a man and woman is not ‘love’ it just innocent ‘infatuation’ or chemistry. John warns of three principles of sin. (I John 2: 15-17)
1. Lust of eyes: Today’s young people state it as ‘Love at first sight,’ perhaps ‘Hate at next sight.’ Eyes is the window to the world to see and admire beautiful things. All admired things need not be desired or lusted or possessed. Lord Jesus Christ warned about looking with evil intention is sin of adultery. (Matthew 5:28) Job made covenant with his eyes so that he will not look at any virgin with lustful intention. (Job 31:1)
2. Lust of flesh: The evil sight leads to evil sensual as well as sexual desires that arouses ‘animal instincts.’ They indulge in harassing, molesting, violating and raping women.
3. Pride of life: Another factor is an inflated ego and entitlement mentality. The pride leads to possess anything they desire even illegitimately and violently.
When principles of the world and not Principles of Word dictates or directs a person, s/he will have disastrous end.
Do I understand sacrificial self-giving love?
