John 3:16 & I John 3:16

Ann Rose Nu Tawng is a Catholic Nun serving in the town Myitkyina, Myanmar. Due to political unrest, police came to punish people and could have shot the children. She in a white robe and black habit knelt down on the street and said to the police: “I don’t want to see any trouble here and can’t leave if police don’t leave, I begged them not to shoot the children.” (Reuters dated 9 March 2021) By her love for the children and courage to face death saved children from trauma, wounds, and death. Ann Rose chose the method of her Master Lord Jesus Christ.
The essence of the gospel is: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Lord Jesus Christ came to lay down his life for humanity to save them from sin, consequences of sin – eternal death. Those who believe in Him will not perish but will have eternal life.
How can that eternal life be exhibited or demonstrated. “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” (I John 3:16) Sadly, many Christians do not demonstrate that kind of love to others. However, Ann Rose demonstrated that kind of love to the children she was called to serve. Serving the Supreme Master, she demonstrated supreme love. Yes, the police also knelt down along with her, received her blessings, they left in peace.
The world is watching the behaviour of Christians. Lord Jesus said that the world will call his followers as ‘disciples’ only when they love one another. (John 13:35) Lack of love is like cancer that damages the health of the church. Leaving all malice, envy, anger, bitterness, revenge…let us learn to love others like Lord Jesus loved us.
Do I love others as Lord Jesus loved us?
