Kindness inscribed in marble
One proverb state: ‘Write injuries in sand, kindnesses in marble.’ This should be the practice of the disciples of the Lord. In fact, it is a spiritual choice that helps a believer to go into Christlikeness and maturity.
Writing on sand Whatever is written on a beach would be washed away by the tide and waves. They are not permanent and disappear within a few minutes or hours.
Forgive and forget When people hurt, betray, tease, deceive, harm, reject, and ridicule, it would be appropriate to let that go. Instead of holding on to them, that becomes resentment, bitterness, and negative and destructive emotions. Paul writes: “ Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” (Ephesians 4:31) Paul also warns not to behave like animals that devour, bite and consume one another by gossiping, bickering and not forgiving. (Galatians 5:15)
Unforgiving spirit Tragically, some are never able to forgive others for years and decades and die with bitterness. Shamefully, some even instigate their children to take revenge, instead of teaching them peace. Such family feuds continue for generations for a trivial reason.
Writing on marble Anything that is significant is engraved on marble. For example, memorial stones and other such information are relevant for posterity. The Ten Commandments were engraved on two stone tablets.
Sweet memories It would be appropriate to engrave kindness, timely help, love, generosity, mercy, and compassion in memory. Such should be remembered, cherished, and imitated.
Human nature It is the sinful nature of humanity that remembers negative experiences for a long time, while forgetting good deeds within a short span. David speaks to his own inner personality, exhorting it not to forget the bountiful blessings of the Lord. (Psalm 103:1-2)
Expression of gratitude Not only should those acts of kindness be remembered, but gratitude should be expressed. Where appropriate, it should be publicly acknowledged. Affirming such deeds helps more people to do acts of kindness.
