Knowing Him

There is a movie comedy in which the comedian is caught by police for traffic violation. Instead of paying a fine, he flaunts his connections and names the senior police officer. The cops are taken aback. Then the comedian says: “I know him, but he does not know me.” The cops beat him up in anger. Lord Jesus Christ taught: “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3) There are numerous people who know about God but do not know God.
In Lord Jesus’ time also, there were many who knew about Lord Jesus. ““Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” (Matthew 16: 13-14) They were willing to give a high status to a prophet. Yes, there are millions who know about Lord Jesus conclude that Him as: Great teacher or Philosopher or Jewish Rabbi or Miracle worker. Some have negative opinions about Him: Deceiver, convicted criminal, defeated god…etc.
However, Peter knew Lord Jesus Christ. “Simon Peter replied, “You are Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 16: 16-17) Knowing God is known Him as Saviour and Lord that is through personal relationship based on faith.
Knowing Him also means He knows us. “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1) Lord Jesus the Good Shepherd calls his sheep by name. (John 10:3) Lord has our photos, profile, status updates and live streaming in His palms as he does not need a device like smartphone. (Isaiah 49:6) Which is superior and secure than our Facebook profiles.
