Generally, there would be question-and-answer sessions. However, the Lord Jesus Christ has Question-and-Question sessions. The Lord expected his followers to think, reflect, analyses, understand, perceive, and apply His teachings. On one occasion, the Lord asked the disciples ten questions. (Mark 8: 14-21) They forgot to pack bread; there was just one loaf. The Lord asked a series of questions. The Lord made that incident a trigger for an informal time of teaching. Similarly, to the Rich Young Man, the Lord also asked questions.
Questions: In fact, questions are good teachers. All learn through curiosity and by asking the foundational questions: What, Why, Where, When, Who, and How. Those who do not have the capacity to raise questions will not be able to learn and grow. It is a skill to raise the right questions to the right person at the right time. Efficient and excellent teachers, instructors, mentors, and trainers ask questions to the students to make them think.
Corrupt influences: Yeast or leaven represents wicked influence, especially by those who are hypocritical religious leaders and corrupt political leaders. Pharisees were obsessed with legalism and self-righteousness, while Herod was indulging in luxury, greed, prosperous ease, and being uncaring for others, like the citizens of Sodom. (Ezekiel 16:49)
Spiritual amnesia: The disciples were selectively and even doubly forgetful. First, they forgot to take enough bread, and second, they forgot about the miracles of feeding the five thousand and, another time, four thousand. The Psalmist reminds himself not to forget the benefits and blessings of the Lord. (Psalm 103:2) The Lord observed their panic response and rebuked them for their hardened heart and lack of faith.
Faith or worry: The disciples did not understand David’s confession: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. (Psalm 23:1) When the Good Shepherd was with them, they need not worry about provision. The Lord directed them towards the realities beyond the immediate surroundings and situations. Worry replaced their faith.
Do I ask questions to find answers, and to our children and others to make them think and learn?
