David writes about seven aspects of waiting in the beautiful devotional song. Christian life is about waiting on the Lord and always doing His will. Like servants who wait on the master, we are called to wait upon him.
1) Waiting for salvation: “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? (Psalm 27:1) In fact the whole of humanity was waiting for salvation through the Promised Seed to humanity and Messiah for the Nation of Israel. That waiting was fulfilled in the incarnation, ministry, death and resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ. Now the Lord waits for humanity to respond in faith and repentance to receive that promised salvation.
2) Waiting for victory (protection): David asserted that he waits on the Lord, hence need not fear about war or enemy attacks. (Psalms 27:3) God has promised us victory over sin, selfishness, death, world and Satan. In the world, there would be troubles, trials, tribulation and temptation, ultimately, we are the overcomers.
3) Waiting and worshipping: David enjoyed worshiping the Lord by gazing at His splendor, sacrificing with shouts of joy, singing, and making music to the Lord. (Psalms 27:4,6)
4) Waiting for answer: David pleaded that the Lord does not turn away from him in anger or reject him or forsake him. At the same time, he confessed that the Lord will not forsake him, even if his mother and father forsook him. (Psalms 27:9-10) God answers our prayers in different ways and in many ways beyond our comprehension or imagination or understanding.
5) Waiting for truth and guidance: David waited for the Lord to teach the way, that is straight, holy, and righteous. Life without guidance of the Lord would be miserable.
6) Waiting for Promises: David expressed his hope in the Promises that he will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalms 27:13)
7) Waiting for his coming: David encouraged to take heart and wait for the Lord. (Psalms 27:14) As New Testament believers we eagerly await the Coming of the Lord.
Do I wait eagerly on the Lord?
