Loving God rejoices and sings amid His people. Prophet Zephaniah prophesied during King Josiah’s reign in Judah and gave this great promise. Hilkiah the priest found a copy of the Book of Law in the temple. King Josiah and the Nation humbled himself before the Lord. (II Kings 22:19) He brought many changes including removing idols and celebration of the Passover. (II Kings 23:22) “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17) This promise is for all redeemed people of God.
1) Mighty: God is the Sovereign God and Mighty Warrior who saves His people from all distress – spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical. There is no power or authority that could rise against God. He is a strong refuge of His people.
2) In our midst: God delights to dwell amid His people. (II Corinthians 6:16) He is not a distant God, very present help always.
3) Saviour: God is the only Saviour who saves His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21) There is no other Way or Name except the exalted name of Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.
4) Rejoice: God rejoices, when sinner repents, along with His angels. (Luke 15:7) Wise children bring joy to their fathers. (Proverbs 15:20)
5) Rest: God gives His people shalom: rest and peace. The wholesome peace that is beyond human comprehension or understanding.
6) Love: God’s love is revealed, expressed, and exhibited through Lord Jesus Christ that He died on the cross of Calvary, buried and rose again.
7) Singing: It is amazing to know God sings, songs of delight. God the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit sang along with angels and redeemed people of God. It is wonderful for us to be a reason or theme for the song of the Lord. If God sings, we should also sing.
Do I hear Lord’s songs of delight?
