One psychologist listed characteristics of unconditional love based on research done by a university. Interestingly, it provides a list that applies to God described in the Bible. Paul challenges us to fathom the depth, width, and height of God’s love. (Ephesians 3:18)
Empathy: Lord Jesus Christ born as a human endured all that a human could experience. Hence, He empathizes with humans who go through suffering. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
Prioritize others’ happiness: Lord Jesus died on the cross of Calvary to provide love, peace, joy, and forgiveness as a gift to those who believe. He dwelt among wicked humans, in an imperfect environment, endured torturous suffering on the cross, and died like a criminal, so that humanity could be redeemed.
Forgiveness: Lord Jesus the Son of God pleaded for forgiveness for His tormentors. (Luke 23:34) The blood of Lord Jesus Christ cleanses those who trust in Him. (I John 1:7)
They’re not afraid of vulnerability: The incarnation is a great miracle. The Creator God, dwelt among His creatures who were sinful, enduring immense spiritual pain. Lord experienced hunger, thirst, tiredness, sleep…etc. Lord gave Himself to die voluntarily. (John 10:11)
Patient: God is patient that He delays His coming so that more could be saved. (II Peter 3:8-10) God is long-suffering, abundant in loving kindness, giving ample time to humans to repent and return. (Numbers 14:18)
Love without expectations: God first loved us, even before the creation of the world. He did not expect humans to be ready to love or capable to love, loved them. God loved humans though they were sinners, enemies, rebels, disobedient, and weak. (Romans 5:5-8)
Committed to growth: God loves and is committed to humans to be restored to His fullest plan and purpose. One who has started the good work in His disciples will bring it to perfection. (Philippians 1:6)
They maintain their individuality: Lord Jesus Christ was born of a virgin is one hundred percent God and is one hundred percent human. The Holy Son of God was not defiled or corrupted neither by sinful humanity nor by the cursed world.
