Who are you to counsel me?

An Engineer who lost his job was immersed in social media and failed to get a new job for one and a half years. Meanwhile, he got into a relationship with a woman. His twin sister had a steady job and was pursuing an MBA too. The young man’s mother and sister used to advise him to focus on his career, get steady in his profession and then get married. Enraged by their counsel, after an argument, he stabbed his twin sister 84 times. Leaving her in a pool of blood, went to his mother’s office and asked her to accompany him home for a surprise. When her mother saw her daughter dead, she screamed that she had been stabbed. (NDTV 14 March 2026) Advice, counsel, and suggestions are considered unwanted, unwarranted, and undesirable by youngsters.
Arrogance: “I know it all.” This is the attitude of many youngsters of all generations. They generally undervalue their parents and elders as ill-informed or ignorant of contemporary times. Because of progress in technology, communication methods, and the availability of knowledge, the newer generation would be better than the earlier one. However, information or knowledge has no value if it is not applied appropriately. It is not arrogance, but wisdom is needed. An arrogant fool rejects the instructions and discipline of parents, as this engineer did. (Proverbs 15:5)
Disregard authority: In the era of social media, all authorities and people holding authority are seen with suspicion. They are considered those who kill the joy, peace, progress and prosperity. God establishes authority to govern the world. Hence, respect and obedience to authorities are important. Even children’s cartoons show disregard for officials like the police and show robbers as more powerful.
Disregard love: In the last days, people will not have natural affection. (II Timothy 3:3) Love and respect for mother, concern and care for sister were absent in this engineer’s life. His selfish ego was more important than his twin sister and mother.
Disregard life: When he believes all lives (ignoring the sacredness of human life) are equal, murdering someone is just like killing a mosquito or a worm.
