In the world, there are always counselors. Some are wicked, others are miserable, and only a few are reliable. (Psalm 1:1; Job 16:2) God spoke to Ezekiel stating that there were twenty-five wicked counselors in the city, among them two were prominent and very influential. (Ezekiel 11: 1-3) Nevertheless, a blessed does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.
God knows: God knew exactly how many wicked counselors were there in a city. God commanded Ezekiel to give the true message and prophecy against those wicked misguiding leaders. God said He knew the thoughts that were brewing up in the minds of false prophets. (Ezekiel 11:5-6) There is nothing hidden from Him.
False Message: The wicked counselors always give false messages, false information, and false interpretation, and lead people astray. When prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel pronounced judgment on the city of Jerusalem, they contradicted the message. (Jeremiah 29:5) “You have encouraged the wicked, that he should not turn from his evil way to save his life.” (Ezekiel 13:22)
False Confidence: The message of wicked counselors is peace, prosperity, security, and stability. The false prophets declared that the city is safe like pieces of meat are safe in a covered caldron. Hence, people should build houses and ignore the invasion of Babylonians. They gave false confidence to people.
Reinterpreted metaphor: Ezekiel reinterpreted the metaphor used by the False prophets. He turned their confidence into doom. Ezekiel mockingly said that Jerusalem is not a crook in which food is securely stored, but a pot over the fire in which the meat is cooked. (Ezekiel 11:7-10) Jerusalem would be conquered and they would be delivered into the hands of strangers.
Skewed ratio: When there were 25 wicked counselors and false prophets, there was only one true prophet. There was the loud noise of these evil leaders. Ezekiel’s voice was also loud and clear. Yet, most people choose to believe the false prophets at that time, which is true even today. Sadly, wicked voices have been amplified through social media today.
