A small child in the Sunday School gave a brilliant answer about the yoke Lord gives His children. Yoke is laid on the neck of animals. The small girl said: “Lord Jesus puts His arm around our neck, that is the yoke for His children?” Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) Another child said that the yoke is shared by two bullocks. However, one bull is just a calf, while the other is strong. In reality, the stronger one bears all burden, the calf just pretends or cooperates. The small boy said: The calf represents children while the strong represents Lord Himself who bears all the burden of the yoke, while calf joyfully cooperates.
1) Learn: Lord Jesus is our Father who lovingly, gently, and joyfully teaches His children. Learning is a process that takes a lifetime. Renewal of mind is a process that cultural, social, and traditional worldviews are replaced biblical worldview.
2) Rest: The lifelong learning is not boring but exciting; not wearisome but energetic; not fatiguing but equipping us. For in His presence is salvation and rest. (Psalms 62:7; Jeremiah 6:16)
3) Easy: It is easy, because the yoke fits well. When we wear right size shoes, it is comfortable, wrong sized shoes will torment a person. When disciples know the truth, they are set free. (John 8:32)
4) Light: The burden is light as Lord Himself bears along with us. Lord’s given burden is not heavy but light or appropriate. Taking up the cross and following Lord Jesus Christ is a privilege. Burden for unreached people and perishing souls is also light, that does not destroy us.
Do I delight in carrying the yoke of Lord Jesus Christ?
