Nazi-occupied Paris in 1943. The Nazis stamped the word JUIF in permanent blue ink on the identity documents of the Jews. That mark meant they would be arrested, deported, and executed. The resistance movement approached a teenager, Adolfo Kaminsky, who was interested in chemistry. He discovered that without damaging the document, lactic acid would dissolve the dye. Later, he would create documents for the safety of the Jewish people. It took two minutes to erase the seal. In one hour, he would save 30 lives. He spent many hours without sleeping, saving people. Three hundred children from an orphanage had to be taken to a safe country. Without sleep for two days, even while he collapsed, he continued and saved those children from death. He saved at least 14000 people from imminent death. For his services, he did not charge. Even his children did not know what he had done. He died in 2023 at ninety-seven; his legacy is not statues and monuments but the lives of generations that exist. Like the midwives, who refused to obey the command of Pharaoh to kill the children born to Hebrew women. (Exodus 1:17)
Dangerous rulers: The world has witnessed numerous ruthless, brutal, and sadistic rulers who killed men, women, and children mercilessly. Some such killings are known or documented, but many are buried in the sands of time. They blatantly violated the command: You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13) King Herod killed boys under two years in Bethlehem. (Matthew 2:16-18) Sadly, there were always a group of conspirators, collaborators, and cruel cooperators with such murderous rulers.
Doing good: The disciples are called to do good and are equipped to do things that save lives, increase the quality of life, create wealth, and make life easier and more comfortable. (II Timothy 3:15-17) Adolfo Kaminsky did not take a weapon to fight; he just intervened with his skills to save a life from imminent death.
Defying death: People who know the truth are not afraid of death. The disciples are not afraid of death; hence, the Church cannot be defeated.
