Paul writes that every Christian believer is involved in spiritual warfare. Putting on the spiritual weapons of helmet, breast plate, belt, shield, shoes, and sword is important. However, it is not enough to be armed with spiritual weapons; they should be undergirded with prayer. Paul writes with clarity about how prayer should be. (Ephesians 6:1-20)
At all times: Praying at all times is mandated for all disciples. It is not an option or a choice, but a call and a mandate. Maintaining an attitude of prayer always, feeling his presence, and whispering prayers and praises has to be practised.
Spirit-led: There are many prayers offered according to human intellect, circumstances driven, and the desires of the self. The Spirit of God empowers a believer with discernment, insights, and prayers that are not possible by human strength alone. The Spirit-led prayer is also keeping alert with all perseverance.
Prayer and supplication: Paul exhorts believers to make supplication for all saints. Prayers for family, relatives, and church members are good. But it should go beyond those circles to embrace all the saints, especially those engaged in mission.
Prayer for mission: Paul was humble enough to seek the prayers of believers, including those who lived in Ephesus. Those who preach the gospel should have boldness and speak with clarity. They should be able to unravel the mystery of the gospel so that people can understand. Ambassadors have diplomatic status. When they serve in different countries, they cannot be arrested. Here, Paul calls himself the ambassador of the Kingdom of God, serving in the world, in chains. In the world, the prince of the world is wicked, who does not respect the dignity of ambassadors.
Prayer for communication: Paul seeks prayers for him to speak what he ought to speak to the audience sent by God. God not only sends Paul, but He sends the audience to Paul to listen. Hence, he should be competent and skilled to communicate with a variety of audiences, and God provides him in his mission journey.
Am I a soldier of the Kingdom of God, engaged in Spiritual warfare with spiritual weapons and prayers?
