Fishermen deceive fish into being caught. They use instincts, curiosity, and the hunger of the fish to trap them. Modern fishermen use artificial flies or soft plastic lures that resemble local insects. Vibration and scents are also used to attract fish. Using worms to lure the fish is perhaps an ancient method. Peter, Andrew, John, and James were disciples of the Lord Jesus who were professional fishermen. The Lord said to them: “Follow me, I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) Can the disciples use deceptive methods to fish for men? NO. Nevertheless, Christians are accused quite often that they deceive people to make them followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Truth in love: God is love. (I John 4:8) His message is love to all people of the world. Loving God sent His Son to die for the sins of humanity. (John 3:16) The Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and died, as He loved humanity, on the cross of Calvary, shedding His precious blood for the remission of sins. He was buried and rose again on the third day.
Confront with compassion: Christians gently confront the sins of people with confession. The Samaritan woman was gently confronted by the Lord about her sin. (John 4) He showed compassion, rather than condemnation. The sinful woman who was caught and accused by men of adultery received compassion and the opportunity to lead a reformed life. (John 8:1-11) Those who do not listen to gentle nudging and whispers of love will face judgment.
Salt and Light: Christians share the gospel by shining as children of light. (Matthew 5:15-17) Like salt, they add meaning and purpose to the life of the community. When people see the difference, Christians joyfully share the reason for their faith.
Gospel Promises: There are several promises God gives to a person who repents and believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. Becoming a child of God, assurance of forgiveness, Eternal Life in Heaven, citizens of the Kingdom of God, and a prepared place in Heaven. (John 1:12; 14;1-2; Philippians 3:20)
