The Jewish mob declared that Paul was not fit to live. (Acts 22:22) This is an arbitrary decision of an emotionally charged and irrational mob.
Giver of life: God is the giver of life. It is impossible to produce life in a lab or by scientific methods. However, God is gracious to give life to humans. He determines the life span of a person.
Murder: The Ten Commandments forbid murder. (Exodus 20:13) Individuals, out of anger or envy, could commit murder, as Cain murdered Abel. Some groups of people fight against another group and commit murder. In the war, acts of terror, people are killed. There are occasions when thousands were killed because of their identity based on religion, language, race, or caste. Such killings are called mass murders or genocide.
Mobs: Mob frenzy is a common social evil. When a few disgruntled and misguided people gather, they end up perpetuating violence. Shrewd leaders could mobilize ordinary people to become mobs that cause great disasters. The mob, instigated by the Priest, vociferously demanded the death of Jesus, while freedom for the murderer Barabbas. (Matthew 27:15-26)
Right to live: God has granted the right to live to all humans until their natural death. This right is a gift of God and not given by any human agency like the United Nations. No human has the authority to take away the life of any other person, except for the judges who could award the death penalty based on the crime committed.
Arrogant: Mobs could become arrogant because of the power they wield against hapless victims. When the Jewish mob declared Paul should not live, they arrogated to themselves the role of God, who is the giver and taker of life. In the world today, irrational mobs, thugs, and hooligans kill people mindlessly. Without fear of God or fear of law, they commit such atrocities.
Warning: Apostle John warns that hating another person is itself murder. (I John 3:15) Anger, contempt, and calling someone a fool are also seeds of murder that are dangerous. (Matthew 5:21-22)
Do I realize God as the giver of life and strive to love others?
