When we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord, a disciple becomes a child of God and a citizen of the Kingdom of God.
The mindset of an Ambassador: Paul writes that the believers are ambassadors in Christ. (II Corinthians 5:20) Ambassadors have the rank of diplomat, which is higher than ordinary citizens when they go as officials to serve in a different or difficult and strange country. They are there to proclaim, propagate, and preserve the high ideals of the host country. As citizens of the Kingdom of God, living in this world as ambassadors is a great challenge. Proclaiming the truth, propagating the gospel, and preserving Christ-likeness in a hostile environment is not easy, but risky, even death.
Priority – a sense of urgency: An ambassador is not a tourist to go around visiting places, enjoying history, and nature. They ought to be alert, agile, and available day and night in the service of their country. Hence, as the Lord instructed His disciples, they prioritize the Kingdom of God. (Matthew 6:33) They establish the Lordship of the King of Kings in the hearts and minds of people, in institutions, governments, society, and culture.
Righteous Values: The Kingdom values are God’s righteousness, which originates from the Holiness of God. It is not just the moral standards of a person or culture or the legal requirements of a nation, but the standards and requirements of the Holy God.
Reputed Role Models: Kingdom citizens are reputed role models. Any leader will point out a disciple among them as a model worker, who should be imitated by others. The best student, the best teacher, the best manager, the best doctor, the best nurse, the best lawyer, etc, are the titles they receive in society.
Leaders – Light in darkness: All those who are not in Christ are spiritually blind. (II Corinthians 4:4) The world is plunged into spiritual darkness. Christians are de facto leaders as they can lead people from darkness to marvelous light. (I Peter 2:9)
