“Jacob was left alone.” (Genesis 32:22) In certain circumstances in life, people of God or saints of God are left alone. There, they must seek God and do so alone. In those situations, no one could help. Well – meaning parents, friends, siblings, relatives, believers, pastors, counsellors…could not provide any assistance. Walking on the lonely path, where only God could minister. Even those who fear God, walk in obedience, pass through darkness, but should rely on God. (Isaiah 50:10)
Valley of death: The valley of death is a lonely place. With the skulls and bones lying around, a mind can imagine the worst. David writes: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” (Psalm 23:4) Saints of God could transform the valley of tears into springs by their faith in God, surrender to His will, and pursue God’s purpose. (Psalm 84:5)
Confronting false worship: Elijah had to fight a lonely battle representing Jehovah. There were numerous false prophets misleading people to follow false gods. The royal couple, Ahab and Jezebel, were providing all support to the prophets of Baal. It was God-given courage, wisdom, and a difficult call that enabled Elijah to stand for the Lord. (I Kings 18:21)
Build the wall: Nehemiah was burdened by the ruined walls of Jerusalem. When he fasted and prayed, interceding for the city, God prepared him. He could get favour in the eyes of the Lord. The wall was in ruins since 586 BC, which he rebuilt in 445-454 BC, that is, about 150 years. He went alone and took the initiative to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem by mobilising the people of God in Israel, which he completed in a record 52 days. (Nehemiah 6:15)
Enter King’s presence: Esther entered the presence of King Xerxes without being summoned. (Esther 5:1-2) It was a violation of protocol that could have resulted in her death. She risked her life so that the Nation of Israel was saved from genocide conspired by vile Haman.
