Perseverance and Promises

Caleb is one of the great personalities in the Bible. His faith, perseverance, persistence, steadfastness, maturity, consistency, and hope are life lessons for all generations.
Persistence: Caleb remembered the promise of God. “And Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’” (Joshua 14:9) In the forty-five years, he never forgot the Promise. Perhaps he remembered, prayed, and recited that from the depth of His heart. He was prepared to possess the Promised Land.
Spiritual preparation: Caleb was steadfast in his spiritual life. Even in the wilderness, he walked with the Lord, steadfastly following Moses, along with his colleague Joshua. Though a multitude disobeyed, rebelled, and died, he did not waver in His faithful life. When Joshua was chosen as Moses’ successor, he was not envious. He accepted that decision of God with grace.
Mental preparation: Caleb was mentally alert and strong. His memory was sharp so that he could recollect the exact words of the promise. Like Caleb, disciples should memories and meditate on the Scripture.
Physical preparation: Caleb was physically fit and vigorous. He asked Joshua not for an easy option, but for a mountainous region where the Anakim or giants, lived. Saints who trust the Lord can defeat the giants of the world. Since the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, we should take care of our bodies for the sake of the Kingdom of God. (I Corinthians 6:19)
Emotional preparation: Caleb was emotionally strong enough to listen to criticism, and the whole congregation turned against the leaders. He could hold on to the Promise without resentment or anger or self-pity.
Hopeful attitude: Though the Israelites murmured again and again, he did not grumble. He was grateful that God had kept him alive, in good health, and gave opportunity to see His promise fulfilled in his own lifetime. Caleb had a dream or a clear vision about the future victory.
