There is an interesting book ‘Guinness book of world records.’ Some like to achieve significance by doing something unique, could be crazy and weird to gain entry in that book. Lucky Diamond Rich spent over one thousand hours to earn a title: Most Tattooed man. He is one hundred percent tattooed that includes his lips, mouth, eyelids, and ears.
All humans like to be considered worthy, special, unique, different, and significant in some way or other. Children need care and attention. If children do not get loving touch and attention in children’s homes, they do not develop physically and emotionally healthy, even though they get good care of food, clothes, education and stay. A child seeks attention from mother or father or siblings and later from peers in school.
After flood during the time of Noah, the inhabitants of earth wanted to create a name for themselves by building a city with huge tower that would reach ‘heavens.’ (Genesis 11:4) Nebuchadnezzar congratulated himself for building a majestic city with hanging gardens that brought judgement of God. (Daniel 4:32)
Bible teaches, God grants us significance for our faith.
1) Child of God: Those who receive Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour, by repentance from sin and faith in the finished work of redemption through his death, burial and resurrection. (John 1:12) Yes, every believer is significant because s/he is child of God, name written in book of life. (Revelation 20:15)
2) Witness for God: God has given us the privilege to be His witnesses. (Acts 1:8) Not appointed by men by God as his witness for God.
3) Instruments of God: Paul writes that God wants to use us as ‘instrument of righteousness’ in the world to bring changes and establish righteousness.
4) Ambassadors of God: Paul writes that we are ambassadors appointed by God representing Kingdom of God in the world. Also mandated to call all people to be reconciled with God. (II Corinthians 5:20)
Our significance in Lord Jesus Christ is through His love and grace, received by faith.
