An Iranian man Amou Haji nicknamed the “dirtiest man in the world” for not taking a shower for decades has died at the age of 94. He feared that he would get sick if he took a bath. (NDTV news 25 October 2022) Though he lived long, his life had no meaning or purpose.
Paranoid: Excessive or unwarranted fear could make a person paranoid. Many people are afraid of dogs, insects, rodents, or reptiles. Some are afraid of water, height, or train/flight travel. A few are afraid of certain professionals: like doctors, police or politicians, or teachers.
Paralyzed: Some are afraid that they are momentarily paralyzed or for a short or long period. The soldiers who came to arrest were paralyzed for a moment when the Lord told them he was Jesus Christ. (John 18:6)
Fear of death: The disciples traveling with Lord Jesus Christ on a boat were terrified seeing winds, waves, and water inside their boat. Lord rebuked them for inadequate faith, which was exhibited in the fear of death. (Mark 4:39-40) Those who believe in Lord Jesus are not afraid of death. (Hebrews 2:15)
Socially paranoid: Many love Lord Jesus Christ, accept His gospel, and know that he is the only way to salvation. However, they are afraid of society. In a society, a person who has different opinions or ideas may be rejected. Fearing such a boycott, they do not want to follow Lord Jesus.
Spiritually paranoid: There are a few who are afraid of a ‘holy’ life. Being comfortable in the pleasures of sin, they do not want to forsake or abandon them to follow Lord Jesus Christ. Temporary pleasure and comfort in this world seem to be more valuable for them.
Culturally paranoid: Some reject Lord Jesus Christ, stating that He is a foreigner. Instead of seeing Him as the Creator, Sovereign Ruler, and Savior, see him as a Jew. This is self-destruction.
Healthy fear: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10)
Do I have a healthy fear?
