There is a social media post lamenting the culture in some countries in Asia; because of that, there is no Efficiency, Productivity, or punctuality. Some responses to that post were negative, while others were affirming. The Bible transforms cultural values. Sadly, some of the biblical values are labelled as Western values.
Diligence and Efficiency: Those who are diligent, who are neither lethargic nor lazy, would accomplish great things. They will stand before kings or those in authority to receive commendation and awards. (Proverbs 22:29) Diligence, for a Christian, is doing any task with full heart, mind, and soul, doing it for the glory of God, and doing it unto the Lord. (Ecclesiastes 9:10; I Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:23) So, diligence becomes a habit for millions who have heard that preached from the pulpits in the church. Thus, it becomes a cultural value in the Christian-dominated Western world.
Productivity or Fruitfulness: Being fruitful is a Christian virtue. One who meditates on the Word of God, Day and night, is like a fruitful tree. (Psalm 1:1-3) Those who sow weeping will reap with joy. (Psalm 126:5) John the Baptist calls the Nation of Israel to repent and give fruit of repentance and warns that the axe is at the root of the tree; the tree that does not give fruit will be cut down. (Matthew 3:8; 10) The Parable of Talents teaches people to use their resources intelligently, wisely, optimistically, strategically, and double them. (Matthew 25:14-30) A talented man bestowed with five has to bring five more; if he brings less, it is underperformance.
Punctuality: God is sovereign over time and orders all things under heaven in His time, but he transcends time too. (II Peter 3:8) Human time is in His hands, and He does everything beautifully in his time. (Psalm 31:15; Ecclesiastes 3:11) People who are punctual respect others, their time, and do not steal their time. All things should be done decently and in order. (I Corinthians 14:40) Believers should use the time wisely. (Ephesians 5:15-16)
Do I live according to Biblical values, challenging dominant cultural values?
