Bank Lockers robbed

Thieves made a hole in a wall the Indian Overseas Bank shares with an empty plot of land in Matiyari, Lucknow, broke into several safety lockers, and ran away taking money, gold, and other precious things. (Deccan Herald 23 December 2024) Safety lockers were not secure enough. Lockers in the world are of no use, as there will be intelligent thieves who could break in. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

Beyond this world:
No one has witnessed a funeral car followed by a truckload of gold, silver, pearl stones, or earthly possessions. (Job 1:21-22) Egyptian Pharaohs were buried with gold and other wealth, but it was beneficial for only thieves.

No Ultimate Value:
Futile to dedicate life to this worldly treasure. Money and wealth are important for this life on earth that may be for a few decades. However, they are nothing when a person dies.

Contentment:
The key value for a Christian is contentment with godliness or a spirituality of contentment. (I Timothy 6:6) Most people in a survey said that if their salary doubled or certain purchases were made (house or vehicle) then they would be content.

Treasures:
Content people are those who store up treasures in heaven. Somehow human mind is attached to treasures. When wealth and treasures are piled up on the earth, the mind would be on earthly pursuits. A godly person focuses on doing God’s will, extending His Kingdom, and doing Good Works in His Name. Without being consciously aware, they store up in heaven. And the mind automatically follows Kingdom pursuits.

True Treasure:
Christ Himself is the true treasure. He is seated on the right hand of God, hence seek things that are in Heaven. (Colossians 3:1)

Do I lay up treasures in Heaven regularly?
