Dr. Howard G. Hendricks, the late professor of Dallas Theological Seminary: “I’m finding an increasing number of men who are ending at the top of the pile in terms of their field and at the bottom in terms of fulfilment. I believe the primary reason is that they have fuzzy objectives.” Some of them go through depression and even commit suicide. The search for meaning, peace, and contentment is a lifelong pursuit for many people. God has placed eternity in the hearts of humans. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) Without knowing the eternal Sovereign God, there could be no meaning or purpose in life.
Peace: Every man and woman seek peace. Without being at peace with God, it is not possible to experience peace. The gospel is preached, and those who believe can be reconciled with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. This is called the ministry of reconciliation; God has entrusted the Church. (II Corinthians 5:18) The Lord Jesus Christ promised peace, which the world can never give nor snatch away. (John 14:27) When a person’s life is pleasing to God, He makes his enemies be at peace with that person. (Proverbs 16:7)
Purpose of life: For some people, becoming rich is the purpose of life. For others, it could be popularity, power, or position. Even after accomplishing their desires, they do not see any meaning or purpose in life. To know Him is Eternal life. (John 17:3) Knowing God, His will renews the mind and provides life purpose for disciples. (Romans 12:2) Their purpose is to prioritise His Kingdom and His Righteousness. (Matthew 6:33)
Contentment: There is neither satisfaction nor contentment without true spirituality. Paul writes that Godliness with contentment is a great gain. (I Timothy 6:6) Devotion to God produces inner satisfaction which is equal to great wealth in the world. Contentment is learning to live what is provided by God, and trusting God for the future, purpose, protection, and divine plan. Such contentment safeguards against the sin of covetousness.
Do I have confidence in knowing Him and enjoy contentment?
