Sadly, today, many people are emotionally overwhelmed, afflicted by anxiety, uncertainty, confusion, mood swings, and indecisiveness. Believers should be grateful as God blesses them with emotional wellness.
Anxieties converted into prayer: Christians have a great privilege and a marvellous spiritual tool termed prayer. Mostly, prayer is an underutilised gift of God. Worries, anxieties, and fears could be brought to the presence of God and exchanged for a peace that surpasses human understanding. (Philippians 4:6-7)
No uncontrolled explosion, Honest expression: The Bible teaches disciples to express their emotions honestly, wisely, responsibly, and morally. Christians could be angry, but should not sin, such as being violent or destructive. And the anger has to be switched off when the sun goes down. (Ephesians 4:26) David and other psalmists pour out their grief, sorrow, anger, bitterness, anguish, rejection, and despair into God’s presence as lamentations.
Sabbath Rest: The good Lord invites those who are spiritually, emotionally, mentally, psychologically, and physically burdened and weary to Him. And He will give rest, emotional stability, and peace. (Matthew 11:28)
Lordship of the Holy Spirit: The Fruit of the Spirit is all connected to emotions. (Galatians 5:22-23) Love instead of hatred, joy instead of gloominess, peace instead of confusion, patience instead of short temper, kindness instead of rudeness, goodness instead of vileness, faith instead of despair, gentleness instead of high-handedness, and self-control instead of gratification.
Guard your heart: The inner being of a person has thoughts, values, choices, preferences, and decisions that are referred to as the heart. (Proverbs 4:23) Good and noble thoughts shape emotional well-being. Toxic, wicked, and negative thoughts damage emotions. Good, noble, and godly thoughts would give better emotional health. (Philippians 4:8)
Sense of belonging: Christians have a double sense of belonging. First, they belong to God, as children of God, because they have received the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 1:12) Second, they belong to the community of believers, the local church. Believers carry one another’s burdens and thus fulfil the Law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
