People like to be invited to special events like weddings. Even after getting the invitation, some people may choose to stay away from the event. Others wish to attend, but do not have an invitation, hence feel hurt. The Lord Jesus Christ honored the invitation of people, stayed with them, taught them and blessed them.
Martha: When the Lord Jesus and His disciples went to a village, Martha invited Him to their house. (Luke 10:38) For sure, there were many homes in that village. But only Martha invited the Lord to her house. A few villagers certainly knew that the Lord was coming to their village, but they were either unconcerned or indifferent. In contrast, Martha took the initiative to invite the Lord.
Wedding at Cana: Jesus and His disciples were invited to a wedding at Cana, along with Mary, the mother of the Lord. (John 2:1-11) The presence of the Lord helped the couple to escape embarrassment and ridicule. The wine that was supposed to be served for all guests was over, and the Lord did a miracle to turn the water into wine.
Samaritan village: The Lord met the Samaritan woman. In her conversation, she understood that the Lord Jesus Christ was the Messiah and shared it in her village. The villagers came to the Lord and requested him to stay with them and teach, and the Lord stayed in the Samaritan village for two days. (John 4:40,42)
Simon the Leper: One of the Pharisees who probably recovered from leprosy invited the Lord and His disciples to a feast. (Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9) The Lord accepted his invitation. Though the Lord did not get a rousing welcome, he attended the feast, where a woman anointed the Lord with an expensive perfume. The Lord taught the guests the importance of loving the Lord, not just keeping the Law as routine and ritual.
Knock at the door: Today, the Lord knocks at the door of all men and women. Those who listen, open the doors in faith, and the Father and Son would get in and dwell in them. (Revelation 3:20)
Have I invited the Lord into my heart?
