A mega church leader boasted that it never visited the homes of its congregation. Sadly, he did not take lessons from the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. He visited homes and sometimes preached to only one woman, healed the sick, and accepted feasts in homes.
Mary and Martha: The Lord visited the home of Mary and Martha. He delightfully taught one student, Mary, when Martha was busy with the hospitality logistics. (Luke 10:39-42)
Peter: The Lord visited the home of Peter and healed Peter’s mother-in-law, who was suffering from a fever. (Matthew 8:14)
Simon the Leper: The Lord was invited by Simon. When the Lord arrived there, there was no provision for water to wash his feet, no kiss and embrace, no oil for anointment, yet the Lord participated in the feast. His mission was important, not the behaviour of the one who was invited. Instead, the woman wet his feet with tears, wiped her hair, kissed his feet, and anointed him, showing love, devotion and worship. The message of forgiveness and love of God had inspired generations. (Luke 7:44-46)
House of Jairus: The Lord visited the home of Jairus, whose daughter was ill. Later, the news came that she had died. But the Lord said to Jairus to trust. When he reached home, they were mourning. Lord went in and raised her from the dead. (Mark 5:21-43)
Zachaeus: Though Zachaeus had a desire to see the Lord Jesus, he probably did not expect Him to visit his home. Looking up to Zacchaeus, the Lord said: Hurry up, come down, I have to stay at your house today. (Luke 19:5)
Paralysed man healed: The Lord taught in a home. Pharisees and other critics travelled from Jerusalem to Galilee to find fault in his life and teachings. Because of the crowd, four friends could not bring a paralysed man to Jesus through the door. They opened the tiles of the roof and let the paralysed man in front of the Lord. He was healed. (Luke 5:17-25)
Do I realise the importance of ministry to families by visiting their homes?
