People like to drive long distances on Freeways. It is also pleasant to travel at high speed, without hindrances, traffic signals, and intrusions. Life is a journey; it is a spiritual journey. There are similarities between travelling on a Freeway and a life journey.
Entrance and toll: Freeways are not free. It is essential to pay toll or tax to use the Freeway. In the spiritual journey, there is no payment is needed. Salvation is a free gift of God, as the Son of God has paid with His own blood and the cost of redemption. However, there is one entry point. The Lord Jesus Christ said: I am the gate. (John 10:9) Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, as the savior and Lord, is the starting point of a true spiritual journey.
Highway: The Lord Jesus Christ said: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6) This way was created by Him through His body. This is also called the Living Way. (Hebrews 10:20) Generally, the Freeways have roads in both directions, but the spiritual journey has only one way and one direction. Hence, it is also described as the Narrow Way. (Matthew 7:13-14) Prophet Isaiah terms this as the Highway of Holiness. (Isaiah 35:8) David calls this the path of righteousness. (Psalm 23:3)
Journey: On the Freeways, it is possible to be carefree and set the vehicle in cruise control. In contrast, in this spiritual journey, there is no autopilot mode. It has to be done with diligence, determination, discipline, and amid difficulties. Satan could create mirages and distractions with his deceitful tactics. Nevertheless, the journey is pleasant as the Lord goes before, the Holy Spirit is helping, guiding, and encouraging, and the Word of God gives a sense of direction.
Destination: The destination is eternal life with the living Holy God forever. The journey begins on earth and ends in heaven. It begins in a time, but merges with eternity. It is the absence from the body, to live with Him forever.
Am I journeying in the Freeway of Faith towards heaven?
