A mother bird brings food to the little ones in the nest. Seeing the mother bird, the little ones would open their mouths wide. The mother bird fills the mouth. Similarly, the believers are fed by the Lord when they open their mouths wide. (Psalm 81:10)
Limited individual capacity: The mother bird may have a big portion of food, but it is the individual capacity of the little bird that will determine the amount it gets. Spurgeon said: “How small is the cup, and we blame the fountain.” God’s resources are inexhaustible, but the human capacity to receive all the blessings is limited.
Sense of need: Only when the baby cries, the child is fed. The believers also should cry out to the Lord. Only those who hunger and thirst after righteousness and truth will be filled and satisfied, hence called blessed. (Matthew 5:6)
Greater things: Opening the mouth wide means asking for greater things. William Carey said, “Attempt great things for God, and expect great things from God.” Believers should have a burden for the people who are perishing. Then God will give a burden, concern, and compassion to do something for them. Those who are burdened will ask God to do great things.
The greatness of God: Those who understand the greatness of God and His attributes will open their mouth wide. It is not only to worship, praise, and glorify God, but to become instruments of a great God to great marvellous things. God wants to reveal His truth, demonstrate His power, and show his love to the people of the world through His children.
Grace and mercy: The blind man on the outskirts of Jericho called upon the Lord Jesus Christ. He opened his mouth and raised his voice, pleading for God’s mercy. The gracious God stopped and granted him the eyesight he asked for. (Mark 10:46-52) Believers should trust the promises of God and plead for His grace and mercy every day of life.
Do I open my mouth and be filled with His blessings?
