There is temptation to stand in awe, shocked, shaken, and without knowing what to do, when some miracle or great or glorious event happens. Nevertheless, these things happen for us to learn, grounded in faith, and move with hope.
Shepherds: The angels appeared to the shepherds in the field. They received a message from God and a direction to go to Bethlehem. Now they had to respond. “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” (Luke 2:15) The appearance of the angels is a highlight, not an end or stop point.
Disciples after Transfiguration: Peter, James, and John were indeed blessed by the glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ and the appearance of Moses and Elijah. Peter’s preference was to erect tents and permanently stay there. (Matthew 17:9) They came down from the mountain. There could be spiritual upliftment that is extraordinary, but it is not possible to be there permanently.
Disciples in Gethsemane: Peter, James and John got the privilege to pray with the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane. Sadly, they slept. After that, the Lord called his disciples to go and meet the betrayer who had arrived. (Matthew 26:46) The Lord had prayed, and surrendered His will and chose Father’s cup of wrath on behalf of humanity. Then, he went straight to fulfil God’s will. There was no delay, no hesitation, but a bold step of faith.
Disciples in Olive Mount: For forty days after His resurrection, the Lord appeared to the disciples. Several of them were gathered in the Olive Mount as they were watching the Lord ascend to Heaven. The disciples were watching the clouds. The angels said to them: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11) They went to Jerusalem as the Lord had commanded them.
Do I desire highlight and limelight or move forward as the Lord leads and directs?
