No Room

The religious leaders of the Jewish nation were physical descendants of Abraham and were proud of it. However, they sought to kill the Son of God. Hence, the Lord said: “My word has no place in you.” (John 8:37)
No room: The word used here means the word cannot get settled, dwell or take root within the minds of the hearers. It is like the seed that fell on the wayside, which was taken off by the ravens. (Matthew 13:4)
Lack of progress: The Word is not making any progress in their lives. It is just at the surface level. It does not go deep.
Unbelief: When the Word is not received in faith, then the listeners are the losers. The Nation of Israel had a habit of not mixing the Word with faith. (Hebrews 4:2) Hence, they plunged into unbelief.
Hardened: The lack of faith leads to hardening of the heart. When Pharaoh rejected God’s commandment to let the children of Israel go, his heart was hardened. (Exodus 8:15; 32)
Hostility: When the mind is filled with unbelief and hardness, there is hostility towards God. Instead of love for God, there is hatred against Him.
Presumption and Pride: When there is no faith, there are presumptions. The religious leaders assumed that they were real, genuine, and spiritual descendants of Abraham, which was a false understanding. Strangely, they were proud of their assumptions and not willing to listen to the Lord’s warning.
Obedience: Abraham obeyed God’s call, but his descendants refused to listen, did not discern God’s voice, and rebelled against the Son of God.
Proximity: As Abraham’s descendants, they were near to His Word, Covenant, and Promises. Yet, because of their disbelief, there is a great distance from God.
Paul’s advice: As disciples of the Lord, the Word of God should dwell, renew, and saturate their minds. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16)
Does His Word dwell in me richly?
